BOOK RELEASE: ALGONQUIN SPRING – SECOND NOVEL OF THE ALGONQUIN QUEST SERIES

BOOK RELEASE: ALGONQUIN SPRING – SECOND NOVEL OF THE ALGONQUIN QUEST SERIES

Years after a devastating battle, Mahingan and his tribe struggle to recover a lost loved one.

Six  years  earlier  in the  fourteenth  century,  Mahingan  and  his  tribe  fought  the  Battle  of  the  Falls  against  the Haudenosaunee. There were many losses, and Mahingan thought he had lost his wife, Wàbananang (Morning Star). But after the battle, he learned she was still alive, taken captive by the Haudenosaunee. Now on a desperate quest to rescue her, Mahingan and his small family are wintering north of the Ottawa River near present-day Lachute, Quebec. If they are to have any hope of recovering Wàbananang, though, they must first survive until spring.

At the same time, over 2,000 kilometres away in present-day New- foundland, events taking place will affect four Native tribes: Mahingan’s, a group of Mi’kmaq, a Beothuk group, and a band of Haudenosaunee warriors led by Mahingan’s old nemesis, Ò:nenhste Erhar (Corn Dog) — a fierce Mohawk War Chief and Wàbananang’s captor.

Along the way, Mahingan’s brother, Mitigomij, will reveal his true self and powers. Then, an influential Mi’kmaq legend puts a new, powerful twist on events, and threatens to send things spiraling out of Mahingan’s control.

I hope everyone is enjoying great weather where they are residing. Here in the Kingston Ontario area that I live (a small hamlet called Glenburnie) we are having one of the best September’s that I can recall. I have been golfing and canoeing almost every day in balmy 20 degree Celsius weather, (70’s F. for my American readers).

Only 22 days to October 10th until Dundurn Press releases my second novel of the Algonquin Quest Series; Algonquin Spring ,which is the follow-up to I Am Algonquin, for retail sales worldwide.

Meet new characters, travel to new lands, plus the introduction of two new Native languages, Mi´kmaq and Mohawk, loose ends tied up and new ones unravel. In addition we will find out some secrets about a shape-shifter.

I was pleasantly surprised when on July 1st of this year CBC Radio selected I Am Algonquin as one of the top 100 Young Adult books that make you proud to be a Canadian.

I have said this before but it is worth repeating. I am very thankful to Marti Ford a school superintendent with the Frontier School Board in Manitoba for introducing I Am Algonquinto her students. I am even happier that the students enjoyed the book immensely. The Frontier Board is the largest school board in Manitoba.
