CANADA’S FIRST INTERNATIONAL INDIGENOUS SPEAKER SERIES LAUNCHES OCT 10, 2015 AT THE BELLA CONCERT HALL

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 30, 2015

A platform for traditional knowledge and contemporary culture

Calgary – REDx Talks is the first Indigenous speaker series to give a platform to some of the most influential Elders, creatives, thinkers and agents of change on Indigenous and conciliation issues. The October 10th launch of the groundbreaking REDx Talks at Mount Royal University’s new Bella Concert hall will be a full afternoon of ideas, engagement and dialogue, honoring the Indigenous spirit of oral tradition, showcasing speakers such as Dr. Leroy Littlebear, Mrs. Universe-Ashley Callingbull-Burnham, and award-winning Cree actress Roseanne Supernault.

REDx Talks is produced by the Iiniistsi Treaty Arts Society, a Society which endeavours to engage and share Indigenous worldviews and build a knowledge bundle to be transferred to future generations from every part of the globe. “Iiniistsi is the Blackfoot word for ‘treaty’, but the spirit and intent of the word holds a deeper meaning of peace and new beginnings,” says Cowboy Smithx the curator for REDx Talks and Artistic Director for Iiniistsi Treaty Arts Society.

“REDx Talks promotes stories of resilience, there’s your R, stories of empowerment, there’s your E, and discourse, there’s your D,” says Smithx, “REDx Talks will explore iiniistsis between Indigenous and settler societies, cultures and individuals; iiniistsis past, present and possible.”

Lead by Iiniistsi board chair Dr. Leroy Littlebear, Iiniistsi Treaty Arts Society is proud to announce Mount Royal University as their official educational partner, and co- presenter. The first ever REDx Talks on October 10th will be a major event. Featuring 9 speakers in three sets with two 45-minute intermissions featuring performances, music, Q+A’s, refreshments, and engagement with organizations and individuals of all Treaty 7 Nations.

Tickets are priced on a sliding scale from 50 to 100 dollars and are available online at redxtalks.org, or at the Bella Concert Hall’s box-office at (403) 440-7770.

REDx Talks launches October 10, 2015 with REDx Talks 2, 3 and 4 being planned for 2016.
