This is a one-time, special-access media preview for capturing film and photographs of the Walking With Our Sisters (WWOS) commemorative installation at the Carleton University Art Gallery (CUAG). Photos and film footage will not be allowed afterward.
Interviews (live and pre-taped) can be scheduled throughout the installation, which ends on Oct. 16, 2015.

Where: Carleton University Art Gallery, St. Patrick’s Building, Carleton University
Note: Members of the local Indigenous community and the local and national organizing committees will be present and available for interviews in English and French.

Background: Walking With Our Sisters is a commemorative installation made up of more than 1,800 pairs of moccasin vamps, including children’s vamps, dedicated to the memory of children who did not return from residential school and arranged on the floor in a winding path formation. The vamps (or “uppers”) are intentionally not sewn into moccasins in order to represent the women, children and Two-Spirit people whose lives were so tragically cut short. Visitors remove their shoes to walk alongside the vamps, on a pathway of cloth, in symbolic acts of solidarity and respect.
Walking With Our Sisters is a collective, collaborative, community-based memorial that creates a ceremonial public space so that people can come together to honour, to mourn, to remember and to raise awareness.
