Performances at Toronto’s Sony Centre, Thursday, May 23rd
Toronto, ON—Outside Looking In announced today that comedian Candy Palmater and Toronto Raptors’ in-arena Host Mark Strong will split hosting duties for the 12th annual Indigenous Youth Dance Shows at Toronto’s Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, Thursday, May 23rd. There are two performances scheduled—a matinee at 11am, that will be hosted by Mark Strong, and an evening performance at 7pm, hosted by Candy Palmater. Outside Looking In is a nationally-based organization that offers a high school accredited dance program for Indigenous youth in grades 7-12.
“We were looking for hosts who were going to add to the excitement,” says Outside Looking In CEO Melanie Hurley. “Mark knows how to raise the roof at a Raptors’ game so that was a slam dunk for our matinee audience of students. Candy is an international Indigenous speaker, broadcaster and comedian, so with her inspirational voice and comedic razor sharp wit, we knew she’d keep things on a high note.”
Candy Palmater is a gay Mi’kmaw actor, writer, comic and activist. She stars in her own national TV show called The Candy Show on APTN, has hosted her own national radio show and can be heard often on CBC Radio One. Most recently, Candy has signed a book deal for her memoir with Harper Collins and is currently taping Season One of her Podcast, Sweet Talk with Candy Palmater.
Mark Strong has been the country’s “go-to” person for emceeing major events, which includes returning for his second season as the Toronto Raptors in-arena host and the live voice for the JUNO Awards for over a decade. Mark’s career has ranged from TV, including warm-ups for Deal or No Deal host Howie Mandel to Radio, including the morning show on G987fm. He is currently the host of NBAXL.
