CONSTITUENTS RETURN TO CATHERINE MCKENNA’S OFFICE TO PROTEST THE LIBERALS CONTINUED SUPPORT FOR KINDER MORGAN AND OTHER TAR SANDS PROJECTS

Ottawa/ unceded Algonquin territory – At 2:30pm on April 10th, Ottawa residents will return to MP and Environment and Climate Change Minister Catherine McKenna’s office for a third time to have her answer to her ongoing support for Kinder Morgan and other tar sands projects that violate Indigenous rights and put our climate at risk.

Constituents are also calling on McKenna to respond to the invite made by Coast Salish Spiritual leaders for her to sit down with them at the traditional Watch House that was erected in resistance to the Kinder Morgan pipeline.

The action at her office is also happening just days after Trudeau’s government hinted that their reformed environmental review review process could include massive loopholes for tar sands projects — some of the most carbon intensive and environmentally destructive projects on the planet. It’s also happening just two days after Kinder Morgan has halted all non-essential spending on the project in response to ongoing resistance to the project in BC.

Organizers are hosting a ‘teach in’ that will include Eriel Deranger – a member of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation of Northern Alberta, and founder of Indigenous Climate Action – will be speaking via audio conference to the crowd. Organizers have asked participants to bring noisemakers for a loud rally that will follow the teach in.

What: Ottawa residents return to MP McKenna’s office see that McKenna answer for her government’s ongoing support for tar sands projects that violate Indigenous Rights at put the climate at risk, and to get confirmation about when McKenna will meet with Coast Salish spiritual leaders at the Watch House.
