The National Screen Institute – Canada (NSI) is accepting applications for the sixth year of its NSI IndigiDocs course.
Up to four Indigenous director/producer teams are provided with training, mentorship and up to $16K in cash towards the production of a short documentary.
Training begins in February 2018 with a two-week boot camp in Winnipeg. Teams also attend the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in Toronto.
Students complete post-production at the National Film Board in Montreal and their short films will air nationally as a one-hour special on APTN and stream on aptn.ca and nfb.ca.
Films made through the course have screened and won awards nationally and around the world. Most recently, From Up North by Trudy Stewart and Janine Windolph won the the International Indigenous Award at the 2017 Wairoa Maori Film Festival in New Zealand.
NSI staff members Ursula Lawson and Elise Swerhone serve as co-program managers. Shane Belcourt and Lisa Jackson are the director advisors and Brendon Sawatzky serves as producer advisor. Lisa Meeches is the NSI Indigenous programs advisor.
