What is the significance of a Wampum Belt?  What is treaty law? How has it affected our relationship with First Nations Peoples? And how will it impact our future relations? 

This event is your opportunity to gain insight into our combined future as Treaty People. After all, these treaties are Canada’s foundational documents!

Douglas Sanderson is Swampy Cree and has been deeply engaged in Indigenous issues from a policy perspective. He is an Associate Professor and Decanal Advisor on Indigenous Issues, University of Toronto, Faculty of Law.

All are welcome to join us at the Church of the Redeemer, Bloor & Avenue Road on the 19th of March at 1:00 PM in person if you are vaccinated or by Zoom.

Professor Sanderson is a member of the Opaskwayak Cree Nation on Treaty 5 territory in Manitoba. Prior to teaching in the law faculty, Sanderson served for four years as a senior policy advisor to the Attorney General of Ontario. His graduate work was at Columbia University, which he attended as a Fulbright Scholar.
