FIRST MONUMENT HONOURING FRANCIS PEGAHMAGABOW, WW I HERO AND EARLY FIRST NATIONS RIGHTS ADVOCATE, TO BE UNVEILED ON NATIONAL ABORIGINAL DAY

Tuesday, June 21, 2016 – One hundred years after Francis Pegahmagabow was awarded his first Military Medal, his family and community will join First Nation, military and other dignitaries to celebrate the unveiling of the first monument erected in Pegahmagabow’s honour, at the Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts.  The three-figure, life-sized bronze was created by Tyler Fauvelle, a professional sculptor based in Sudbury, Ontario.  Pegahmagabow’s medals, from the Canadian War Museum, will be on display.

Guard of Honour – based on the 3rd Battalion, the Royal Canadian Regiment. Other participating units:  The Algonquin Regiment and 3rd Canadian Ranger Patrol Group
Dr. Brian McInnes – Educator (University of Minnesota Duluth), author, great-grandson of Francis Pegahmagabow
