WHAT’S ON

SOUNDS & SURPRISES

Level 1

Currelly Gallery: Midnight Shine
Helping set Midnight Shine apart from other Canadian rock bands is Adrian Sutherland’s lyrical explorations of his First Nations identity and musical craftsmanship on an acoustic guitar

Feature DJ: Shub
Influenced by a variety of music including electro, dub-step, dance hall and hip-hop, their signature sound is derived from a personal and spiritual place – the music of their native tribes.

Level 2

Bronfman Hall Lounge: Iskwe
Noted as the ‘One to Watch’ by The Grid TO and one of ’10 Canadian Musicians You Need to Know’ by CBC Music, Iskwé’s cross-cultural aesthetic is as striking as her tripped-out blend of soul (think Esthero meets Alicia Keys).

Feature DJ: Classic Roots
Josh de Perry, Long Lake Red Cliff band member in Thunder Bay, credits hip-hop as a big stepping stone along his musical journey.

Teck Jazz Lounge: The Johnnys
In this acoustic set with traditional hand drum and song, Toronto’s The Johnnys, churn out frenetic, garage-type tunes that derive from 70s hard rock and pure 50s rock ‘n roll. Their first two releases were nominated for numerous awards at the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards.

Level 3

European Gallery Coffee bar: Brendt Thomas Diabo
After taking on an interest in guitar early in life, Brendt’s music is an infusion of old time country, rockabilly and blues.

Level 4

Glass Room (FNL Lounge): Jace Martin
Jace Martin is a 6-time Aboriginal Award winning recording artist and has been as a singer, writer and producer with The Wolfpack, The Backroads Blues Band and TruRez Crew.

Roloff Beny Gallery: Feature Performance – ARTICLE 11
In this electrifying live performance ARTICLE 11 brings their talents to the ROM with DECLARATION: Repatriation; a celebration of Indigenous peoples’ right to engage in the creation and evolution of arts and culture. This program is made possible through a partnership between the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) and the Toronto Arts Council (TAC) as part of the TAC’s Animating Historic Sites and Museums Program.

House DJ: Fawn Big Canoe
This versitile DJ from Toronto plays house, bass, r&b, disco and everything in between.
