THE 1ST ANNUAL GCHI DEWIN INDIGENOUS STORYTELLERS FESTIVAL

On December 4, 2015, Parry Sound Friendship Centre and the Stockey Centre for Performing Arts will host the 1st Annual Gchi Dewin Indigenous Storytellers Festival. Since time immemorable, storytelling has been a major tradition in Indigenous culture that is often used to pass on cultural history, values, beliefs and way of life.

Come join the festivities with celebrated authors, historians, filmmakers and musical guests from across Turtle Island as they share their stories with the community. The line up includes:

Daytime Programming (12-3)

Welcoming feast and opening by John Rice
Historical Wasauksing slide presentation by Vince Chechock
Anishinabe Storytelling Circle

Evening Programming (7-9)

John Rice: Traditional knowledge keeper, Wasauksing Origin Stories
Waubgeshig Rice: Celebrated author, Legacy
Brian McInnes: Oral historian, Untold Stories of Wasauksing Hero Francis Pegahmagabow
Shania Tabobondung : Filmmaker, My Story
Short Film: GAA-ONDINANG DAKWAANO MAKWA (How The Bear Got A Short Tail)
Musical Guests: Lisa McLaughlin and James Lewis
