IndigenousNOW website launches to serve artists and GTA audiences

In June 2019, IndigenousNOW, a new website destination for all of your arts and culture event needs was launched at Toronto’s City Hall. IndigenousNOW.ca is a searchable event database produced by IPAA (Indigenous Performing Arts Alliance) where arts and culture enthusiasts will be able to find and support Indigenous arts and artists, in addition to finding events that involve Indigenous art across artistic disciplines; from music and dance, to theatre, literature and drama. “IPAA is excited to launch IndigenousNOW, a platform that highlights Indigenous arts and culture happening in the GTA,” says IPAA Executive Director Cynthia Lickers-Sage. “We witnessed a void in support for the amazing Indigenous entertainment industry and felt this platform would enable us to easily inform new audiences.”

All self-identified Indigenous artists and cultural workers will be able to submit and promote upcoming events on the site for FREE. Entries are also encouraged to be submitted from those working in the food, visual art, film, and comedy industries. The end goal is for audiences to be better able to find new artists to love; while presenters, curators, and producers will find new work to champion. The goal is to increase awareness of Tkaron:to Indigenous art to both members of the public as well as arts presenters. IndigenousNOW.ca  will be officially launched during the Sunrise Ceremony taking place on Friday June 21st – National Indigenous Peoples Day – 5:30 am to 8:00 am, at Toronto’s City Hall. Breakfast will be catered by Tea N’ Bannock, and the event will include performances by Amanda Rheaume and Brenda MacIntyre, with special guest Elder Garry Sault and Master of Ceremonies Isidra Cruz.

IndigenousNOW is a project of IPAA (Indigenous Performing Arts Alliance) and is generously supported by the City of Toronto’s Indigenous Arts and Culture Fund, with Ontario Presents serving as a partner on this important initiative.
