Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S) supports the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) walk for hope, healing and awareness that begins in Victoria, BC, on Friday, February 18, 2022.
MN–S citizen Lindsey Bishop will attend this cross-country journey. She wants to connect with other families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and raise the profile of their efforts to find answers.
Bishop’s sister is among the missing. Thirty year-old Megan Gallagher was last seen in Saskatoon in September 2019. While the family’s efforts to find Megan have come up empty, Lindsey has decided to take it one step further. She is taking a year off work to join a walk across Canada to raise awareness for all MMIWG families.
Lindsey leaves for British Columbia this weekend to participate in the Women’s Memorial March in Vancouver on Monday, a ‘practice run’ for the MMIWG walk. Before her departure from Saskatchewan, members of the Gallagher family and MN–S invite media representatives to a conversation on missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.
Brian Gallagher (Megan Gallagher’s father), Lindsey Bishop (Megan Gallagher’s sister) and MN–S Women and Gender Equality Minister Loretta King will be available to speak to the media at that time.
