Michael C.Duguay Shares “Candy Store (Jeremy Parkin Reprise)” | Companion Album ‘The Winter of Our Discotheque (Reprise)’ out Dec 4th

Toronto, ON – Michael C. Duguay shares the latest track, “Candy Store (Jeremy Parkin Reprise)” from his forthcoming The Winter of Our Discotheque (Reprise), a compilation album of Canadian artists performing interpretations, remixes, and covers of the songs of Michael C. Duguay’s The Winter of Our Discotheque. “Candy Store” features a remix by Jeremy Parkin, a 23 year old music producer from the Kwanlin Dün First Nation in Whitehorse, YT.

Not only have Duguay and Parkin collaborated on this remix, but they have joined forces on a number of upcoming projects. How did a young hip-hop producer from a northern community and a cosmic country songwriter from Ontario become close friends and collaborators?

“I met Jeremy backstage at a show in Whitehorse and was immediately struck by how everything about him radiated pure creativity.” Michael describes his respect and admiration for Jeremy, “He was wearing an outfit he made himself, he was performing far-out instrumental electronic music for a folk show audience in a soft seat theatre. We immediately started discussing and sharing creative ideas at a conceptual level that it normally takes me years to get to with other artists…I think that Jeremy is one of the most exciting and important artists coming up in Canada.”

Jeremy Parkin describes his process and vision with this remix: “For my remix of Candy Store, I really wanted the track to do a complete 180 sonically. I really enjoyed a lot of ambient aspects in the details of the track; so I based the remix from those and worked from there. I wanted it to feel like you’re disorientated while at like a warehouse rave out in Berlin or London… or something to that effect It was a blast working with the textures and style of Michael’s song as I haven’t had the opportunity to work within his realm of music before I met him, so I felt like I was in a new world with this project.”

Returning to his career as a musician in 2018 after nearly a decade of struggling with and overcoming mental illness, addiction, poverty, and homelessness, Michael C. Duguay assembled a collection of his poetry, compositions, and song-sketches into what would become The Winter of Our DiscothequeThe Winter of Our Discotheque (Reprise) is not only a celebration of Michael’s much-loved personality, songwriting and music, but an enthralling testament to friendship, community, and collaboration by a spectacular and diverse assortment of artists on the vanguard of contemporary Canadian music. This Reprise serves both as the gratifying end of one long and storied chapter in Michael’s life and work, as well as an evocative snapshot of a pivotal moment in Canadian music history.

The Winter of Our Discotheque (Reprise) is set for release on December 4th 2020.
