Nadjiwan – The Dog Lake Sessions

The latest release from multi-award nominated indigenous artist Nadjiwan. Recorded last August 2019 in a cabin during a break from the Nadjiwan – 25th anniversary Generations Tour. Recorded over four-days, while on tour and the weekend before their headlining show at Live From The Rock at Dog Lake, Ontario located about an hour’s drive from Thunder Bay, Ontario. The album is mainly about loss but, how we can also lift ourselves up from that feeling of hopelessness. Love finds a way. Composed and produced by Marc Merilainen, recorded on location at Dog Lake, Ontario and later mixed and mastered by Ron Skinner at Heading North Mastering.

The man behind the project and the music is Marc Meriläinen. Born in northern Manitoba and raised in the untamed beauty of Northwestern Ontario, Marc knew from an early age he would perform music.

After graduating from the Music Industry Arts program at Fanshawe College, Marc returned to Thunder Bay where he began collaborating with other First Nations musicians. The first NADJIWAN compact disc titled “Brother”, released in 1995 went on to achieve much success in both Canada and the United States earning him an nomination for BEST ROCK ALBUM at the Native American Music Awards and the #1 album spot on the Aboriginal Voices Top 10.

Over the past 20 years NADJIWAN has gone on to release 4 studio albums with the latest ‘Superposition’ being number five. The first single ‘Reentry’ hit the #1 spot on the National Indigenous Music Countdown in June 2017. In the past decade Marc has had 5 consecutive #1 hits on the National Aboriginal Top 40.

Marc has had the pleasure of touring this project across Canada & the United States with performances at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, The Mariposa Folk Festival, Northern Lights Festival Boreal, Hillside Music Festival, Folk On The Rocks, 2015 Pan Am Games as well as the American Native Music Awards and Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards to name only a few.

Nominated for : Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards (Best Male Artist & Best Rock Album), Native American Music Awards (Best Rock Album), Dora Mavor Moore Award (Best Original Composition) and recently nominated for Best Radio Single
at the Indigenous Music Awards.
