This month MUSKRAT compiled some exciting events happening all across our territories. From a peaceful march standing up for Standing Rock in Toronto, to a Finger Weaving Workshop in Winnipeg, to a celebration of inspirational Indigenous youth in Southern Alberta; there are many opportunities for all people to get involved in community events. Every Tuesday starting November 1, 2016, 3pm-5pm | Native Youth Resource Centre, 655 Bloor St West, Toronto, ON

Help paint a mural or work on your independent art projects in studio. Supplies are provided, no registration is required and everyone is welcome.

November 5, 2016, 3pm-5pm | Start at Queens Park, 111 Wellesley St W, Toronto, ON

The Standing Rock Sioux Nation has issued a global call to action amid brave Land and Water Protectors facing brutal and outrageous treatment for prayerfully protecting life giving waters.

Peaceful march starts at Queens Park and will make stops at TD, RBC and Scotiabank which are funding the pipeline and then head to the US Consulate.

Let us stand in solidarity at this historic time and remind corporations and the US government that the world is watching. Please bring signs, drums, noisemakers, banners and your peaceful active spirits.

Indigenous to Indigenous: Decolonial Love with Karyn Recollet

Hosted by Ryan McMahon, this event is a live show for people to share stories from the land, from the community, for the people. Everyone is welcome. The Stories From the Land National Tour will be hosted in communities across Turtle Island this Fall with stops in Six Nations, Yellowknife, Whistler, Victoria, Regina, and Ottawa. 

Finger Weaving Workshop
Thursdays 7pm – 9pm from November 10 – December 1, 2016 | 494 Tache Ave. Winnipeg, Manitoba

Facilitated by Carol James, world renowned artisan known for her finger weaving work. This Workshop is $130 per participant and includes Four 2-hour sessions and all project materials.

Unsettled: Indigenous Writers on Land and Love Panel 
November 13, 2016, 10:30am | 519 Church St. Toronto, ON

Panel discussion with powerful Indigenous writers, in part of the Naked Heart Festival, the largest and most diverse LGBTQ literary festival in the world. Join Angela Semple, Cherie Dimaline, Onanankkwaap, Teddy Syrette and Troy Jackson to learn more about Indigenous Literacy. Admission is $5 or free with a Naked Heat Festival Pass. The venue is wheelchair accessible.

Dress the Red Fundraiser
November 19, 2016, 8pm-10pm | Fools & Horses Coffee, 379 Broadway, Winnipeg, Manitoba

Dress the Red is a fundraising event for Drag the Red, a non profit, volunteer run organization aimed at finding clues and potentially the bodies of the missing and murdered in Winnipeg, MB by dragging the Red River and its banks. Attendees are encouraged to wear red in recognition and remembrance of those who are missing and murdered with a focus on the Indigenous people of Winnipeg. Tickets are $20 and available for purchase upon donating at our youcaring.com page. 2nd Annual Indigenous & Ingenious Show and Sale
November 19-20, 2016, 11am-6pm | Ralph Thornton Centre, 765 Queen St. East Toronto, ON

The two-day event will feature works by 18 contemporary Canadian Aboriginal artists, artisans, designers and writers. There will be paintings, beadwork, jewellery, leatherwork and more, as well as Aboriginal cuisine, drumming, and traditional storytelling. Artwork from Clayton Samuel King and Nancy King will be available for purchase. Admission is $5.00. Everyone is welcome.

Fall Feast: An anti-colonial evening of food, film and resistance
November 24, 2016, 6pm-9pm | Native Friendship Center of Montreal, 2001 Boulevard St-Laurent, Montreal, QC

This event takes place on the traditional territory of the Kanien’kehá:ka. Continuing an annual tradition, several Montreal-area social justice organizations committed to anti-colonial organizing and action, are presenting this evening of food, film and resistance.
