A couple of exciting opportunities for Indigenous community members here in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) or for folks in Northern Ontario to share with their networks!

YOUTH SUMMER CLUB SPOTS

We have eight (8) subsidize Summer Club spots for youth between the ages 11-16 to fill for this summer!

YOUTH PROGRAM INTERNSHIP

Through a partnership with Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment & Training we have been able to create a Youth Program Internship that has a short turnaround

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Assistant Coordinator – ROMKids, the Youth Internship Assistant provides research, development and administrative support for the development of a Youth Advisory Circle of youth volunteers (age 16+) from diverse groups throughout the Greater Toronto Area. The Youth Programs Intern will also play an active role as member of an arts-based team that works collaboratively, and bring a distinct Indigenous perspective to enrich ROMKids programs such as the ROM’sSaturday Morning Club and Summer Club programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Support the Planning and Development of the Youth Advisory Circle

• Shadow the Assistant Coordinator of ROMKids Programs and others to better understand the role of youth in programs at the ROM
• Assist in the research and development of the Youth Advisory Circle
• Research and advise on the recruitment of youth (internal and external communications, recruitment presentations to interested youth groups, content for collateral material, orientation packages, training)
• Provide administrative support such as preparing reports concerning youth programs, costs, numbers of participants, and equipment and facility use
• Contribute to arts-based activities that support and foster awareness of Indigenous perspectives for ROMKids

2. Administrative Support for ROM Learning Projects

• Support the development of activities, facilities and volunteers as required for ROM Learning Labs
• Collaborate on research and development of Indigenous EduKits and Colonial-Timeline online resource
• Participate in the development and planning of Learning Staff Indigenous Professional Development Training
• Engage in outreach activities to share information on ROM programs and exhibits
• Monitor the use of equipment and facilities
• Work collaboratively with other program staff at the Museum and performs other relevant duties

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Work/volunteer experience within an Indigenous/Youth Arts-Based environment or equivalent cultural setting
2. Experience working with children in a camp, educational, arts or play-based learning environment.
3. Experience researching, developing, and promoting programs
4. Leadership experience with community groups or youth councils, a participant on an advisory committee, or as a consultant on Indigenous/youth affairs.
5. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
6. Computer literacy including proficiency with the most current word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications.
7. Indigenous ancestry will be considered a definite asset.
8. French language skills will be considered an asset.
9. Applicant must be prepared to obtain a criminal background check.
