SHAWNEE RELEASES “WARRIOR HEART” IN EFFORTS TO END INDIGENOUS YOUTH SUICIDE

16 JUNE 2017 (Toronto, ON) – Today, Canadian songwriting phenom, SHAWNEE releases “Warrior Heart” an incredibly moving track whose proceeds will join the fight in ending indigenous youth suicide.More of a project than it is just a single, “Warrior Heart” is a movement, and a goal to eradicate the current crisis of youth suicide that is inflicting the indigenous population of Canada. “‘Warrior Heart’ expresses my own hardships as a young person, but more than that, it speaks to inspiring these young people to fight for their lives as they are Warriors,” says Shawnee, “I have decided to work with the We Matter campaign.  It’s an indigenous organization that brings workshops to reserves working with youth to empower them”. To learn more about the We Matter campaign, click HERE.  Written by Shawnee, the song was produced by Hill Kourkoutis (The Weeknd / Serena Ryder), Dan Shub (Tribe Called Red) and Tim Thorney (Alanis Morissette / Jimmy Rankin).

Canadian Mohawk singer-songwriter Shawnee has grown far from her roots singing on stages in her hometown of Welland Ontario. Now recognized across Canada, and beyond, the powerhouse award winning vocalist has shared stages with artists like Tegan and Sara and Lady Gaga. Shawnee’s music has been recognized internationally on top radio and TV.  As a lesbian and indigenous advocate, using music to strengthen her communities, MTV named her one of their ‘Top Gender Bending Artists’ in music. Exclaim Magazine called her “an undeniable talent with unique charm”, and Native Trail Blazers recently named Shawnee as one of their ‘Two Spirit People You Should Know’. An incredible music artist, Shawnee earns her spot in the music world.
