From coast to coast, these Indigenous musicians are creating some of the hottest tracks of the summer. This all genre playlist is the perfect mix for a hot summer weekend. If your getting ready for a night out, relaxing after a hard work week or driving to the pow wow, there is a track for you.

1. Mob Bounce – Stay With Me (Remix)

Mob Bounce is “The Peoples Movement.” Hip Hop that pushes spirituality, culture, awareness, consciousness, nature, and all things beautiful. We strive to connect with people and provide a soundtrack for the changes that are happening.

2. A Tribe Called Red – R.E.D. Ft. Yasiin Bey, Narcy & Black Bear

A Tribe Called Red (ATCR) is an all First Nation (Mohawk, Cayuga and Nipissing Anishnabe) DJ crew from Ottawa Canada. ATCR remixes traditional Pow Wow music with contemporary club sounds. Here’s a link to ATCR’s debut and FREE album www.electricpowwow.com.

3. Drezus – Paradis Ft. Rich Kidd

 

Jeremiah Manitopyes, also known as Drezus, began rapping at a young age. Turning poetry into rhymes that fit the beat, he caught on quickly. His first recording session was with the pioneering native hip hop group Warparty and later created his own production group with Jaymak called Rezofficial. The group would part ways mutually for various reasons, but this did not stop Drezus from becoming a solo force.

4. Digging Roots – AK 47

Digging Roots is a Canadian musical group, consisting of husband and wife duo Raven Kanetakta and ShoShona Kish, whose musical style blends folk-rock, pop, blues and hip hop influences. The duo trades lead vocals, continuing to fluidly compliment each-other’s strengths while going from whispery intimacies, to smokey wails.

5. Tony Duncan and Darrin Yazzie – Sunset Song

Native American flutist Tony Duncan and guitarist Darrin Yazzie present tuneful melodies influenced by Duncan’s artistry as a world-class hoop dancer and supported by Yazzie’s graceful arrangements.

6. Kit Nitanis Largo – A Marine’s Loves

From the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, Nitanis “Kit” Largo is one of the most distinctive voices of Native North America. On her debut solo recording, she weaves her reflections on Native womanhood with elegant vocals.

7. ONCE A TREE – HIDE

Saulteaux singer Jayli Wolf‘s lilting vocals pair beautifully with husband Hayden John Wolf‘s 808-stamped beat production, and their sound is completed with soaring synths, spacious pads, and drifting melodies.

8. Manitou Mkwa Singers – One More Chance

Manitou Mkwa Singers (Spirit Bear Singers) are from the Mississaugas of New Credit and is composed of mainly a mother and six daughters and one son. The singers have grown up surrounded by the traditional big drum and hand drum songs and have continued to flourish in this area.

9. City Natives – Straight Chief’n

City Natives is an award winning aboriginal group, consisting of four members: Beaatz, IllFundz, Gearl & BnE. Originating from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, this highly calibrated team of artists have achieved a lot in their short time of being together. From performing with acts such as Bone Thugs N Harmony, YG, SonReal and Madchild to touring Canada with Wu-Tang Clans own; Raekwon, these group of guys have solidified their reputation as established artists.

10. DJ Shub – Old School is for Lovers Ft. Morningstar River

DJ Shub, formerly of A Tribe Called Red, is a title earning DJ and award winning music producer. He lives in For Erie, Ontario and counts two DMC Canada DJ Championship titles (2007 and 2008), a DMC Canadian Battle for Supremacy title (2008), a Canadian Red Bull Thre3style title (2012), and a King of the Dot Canada vs. USA DJ battle win along with trophies from the JUNO Awards and the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards as some of his most notable accomplishments.

11. LightningCloud – Walk Alone

LightningCloud is a North American Hip Hop group based out of Los Angeles, California. The duo consists of Crystle Lightning and MC RedCloud.

Invigorated by the sounds and energy of the underground club scenes, LightningCloud found a way to fuse the elements of Gangsta Hip Hop with Electronic Trap music. Joined by DJ Hydroe, a vibrant, multimedia stage performance in their arsenal and a hunger that is all but gone in this generation, LightningCloud arrives to save us all from the monotony…just in the nick of time.

12. Boogey the Beat – Buffalo

Les Boulanger AKA Boogey The Beat is an Anishinaabe DJ and Producer. A member of the Berens River First Nation on Treaty 5 territory, he was born and raised in Winnipeg, Canada.

First discovering music production in high school, he quickly rose to become one of the top Hip Hop producers in the city of Winnipeg. Working with fellow Indigenous artists such as Wab Kinew, Leonard Sumner, Young Kidd, Drezus, and Winnipeg’s Most solidified Boogey The Beat as an accomplished producer on award-winning projects.
