Great Lakes Cultural Camps – Wiiikwemkoong (November 23, 2015)
Three Anishinabe from Wiiikwemkoong Unceded Territory on Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Francesca Pheasant 12, Autumn Peltier 11 (child delegates) and Bernadette Shawanda (chaperone, Great Lakes Cultural Camps) were selected to represent Canada at the Children’s Climate Conference in Sodertalje, Sweden November 25th – 28th, 2015.

64 children from 25 countries from all over the world gathered in Sweden. Several of the delegates have already been affected by the climate crisis in their home countries. The purpose of the conference is to work together to agree on “the children’s demands,” a communiqué handed to the world’s leaders at the climate summit COP21, also known as the 2015 Paris Climate Conference, December 3 in Paris.

- His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf will receive the children at the Royal Castle.
- The Swedish Minister for Climate and the Environment Hon. Åsa Romson will meet the children at her office and receive the children’s message to the COP21.
