URBAN GTA ABORIGINAL ENTREPRENEURS TO GATHER, LEARN AND CELEBRATE

March 14, 2016 (Toronto, ON): In the Greater Toronto Area, Aboriginal Entrepreneurship continues to grow thanks to the support and efforts of Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment and Training and Miziwe Biik Development Corporation (MBDC). Over the past 14 years Miziwe Biik has been a leader in entrepreneurship training with its highly successful Youth Aboriginal Training programs and the Small Business Certificate Course (SBCC).

This year TABA will be hosting their Annual Aboriginal Business Day forum followed by TABA’s 13th Annual Entrepreneurial Awards Gala event on the evening of March 23, 2016. MBDC’s Aboriginal Business Resource Centre, advocates, promotes and celebrates enterprising Aboriginal entrepreneurs.

The day’s highlight event includes: Keynote Luncheon Speaker, Kendal Netmaker an Aboriginal Entrepreneur who grew up on Sweetgrass First Nation, SK. Mr. Netmaker runs a successful retail operation “Neechie Gear” and received a 2015 National Youth Aboriginal Entrepreneur Award. The days forum will also feature: an experiential workshop on the Business Model Canvas including prizes for the top 3 participants; a panel of small business funders (traditional and alternative); a Meet-the-Expert roundtable; and guest speaker, Graeme Everton, a New Zealand Maori, who will speak to the topic Global Indigenous Trade opportunities.

The 13th Aboriginal Business Day and Gala Awards evening is being held at The Grand Hotel on Jarvis Street. Aboriginal Entrepreneurs will be awarded one of three categories (Male, Female and Lifetime Achievement) as “Entrepreneurs of the Year”.
