About Backbone
A cutting-edge new dance creation inspired by the backbone of the Americas, a continuous sequence of mountain ranges spanning North, Central and South America, as well as Antarctica. Featuring six dancers from Canada, New Zealand and the United States, Backbone combines contemporary Indigenous dance with athleticism to express their power, formation and spirit.
Conceived and directed by Sandra Laronde, with collaborative choreography by Thomas Fonua and Jera Wolfe, with excerpts by Sandra Laronde and Jake Frazier. Featuring explosive live music by Rick Sacks and production design by Andy Moro.
