“The idea for this is that it’s not finished, it might never be finished, because we’re going to do this every year, and every year the piece is going to become richer, it’s going to become more authentic, as we hear and are able to share more of the stories that are a vital part of what you’re about to see…”, Michael Green (1957 – 2015).
Making Treaty 7 staged its historic world premiere last year to sold-out audiences. We invite you to witness this groundbreaking theatrical performance at the brand new Bella Concert Hall, as we honour its founders the late Michael Green and Narcisse Blood.
“This work of art brings to life words and songs that have been held deep in the land forever,” says Co-Director and Gemini-award winning actress Michelle Thrush. “It is a celebration of survival and a telling of truth that needs to be heard and felt by all who call Southern Alberta and Canada home.”
Sharing the stage with Thrush is a diverse and talented ensemble of First Nations and non-Aboriginal performers, musicians, dancers and poets, including Calgary musician and former poet laureate Kris Demeanor, choreographer and performer Troy Emery Twigg, and actor, dancer, and One Yellow Rabbit’s Artistic Associate Denise Clarke.
Making Treaty 7 explores the historical significance of the events at Blackfoot Crossing in 1877, while investigating the consequences and implications of Treaty 7, 138 years later. Making Treaty 7 is relevant to people of all backgrounds and ages, and invites each of us to better understand one another.
Performances run September 23, 24 and 25 at 7:00pm at the Bella Concert Hall located at 4825 Mount Royal Gate SW in Calgary, AB.
